Artelys is in charge of developing, for a consortium of Transmission System Operators (TSOs), a tool for modeling the European power grid in order to increase power exchanges while ensuring grid security. The tool is based on the open-source java library PowSyBl, and calculations are distributed over an HPC cluster.
Artelys is carrying out the METIS project on behalf of the European Commission. This project aims to support the Commission in assessing the impact of energy policies on the cost of energy production, the development of renewable energies, and the security of supply for gas, heat, and electricity. Future developments include a better representation of power grid (Flow-Based Capacity Calculation, nodal markets) in Artelys Crystal Super Grid. This « web » software in java and javascript is based on calculation modules written in Python and C++ and distributed on an HPC cluster.
As part of a high-level R&D team, you will leverage your expertise in software engineering. Your main responsibilities will include:
Participate to the design of software solutions in the energy sector
Develop operational calculation modules based on applied mathematics
Maintaining tools in operational conditions and provide third level customer support.
Our computation modules are developed in Java, Python, and C++.
You hold an engineering school degree, a master or a Ph.D in software engineering, power systems or applied mathematics. You are the ideal candidate if:
You have at least one software engineering experience in Python or Java
You have an interest in mathematical and quantitative approaches, and are comfortable with fundamental mathematical techniques
You are rigorous, have a strong team spirit
You have at least a B2 level in English
You have at least a B2 level in French
Any knowledge, experience and interest in the energy sector, particularly power systems, will be valued.
Working conditions:
Permanent contract, managerial status with a 4-month probationary period.
Up to 2 days of remote work per week possible.

Recruitment process:
Step 1: An initial technical interview via video conference with two recruiters (45 minutes x 2).
Step 2: A second interview via video conference with two other recruiters, as well as a brief 15-minute discussion with the CEO of Artelys (45 minutes x 2 + 15 minutes).
Step 3: If your interviews are successful, we will invite you to visit our premises to make you an offer in person and introduce you to the work environment.
