BERTIN ALPAO, a subsidiary of the BERTIN TECHNOLOGIES group, is a high-tech company renowned for its innovation and expertise in adaptive optics (AO).
A world leader in this field, we design and produce a wide range of deformable mirrors (DM), wavefront sensors (WFS) and customized systems, specially designed for demanding applications such as space, astronomy, optical and quantum communications, ophthalmology, microscopy, microelectronics and laser applications. Thanks to our unique technology, we enable our users to correct optical aberrations in real time, thus obtaining very high-resolution images.
Over 90% exported, Bertin Alpao takes on multidisciplinary technological and scientific challenges in the service of international research projects. In particular, we have developed deformable mirrors for the world's largest telescope, and collaborated with the Nobel Prize-winning physics team Reinhard GENZEL and Andrea GHEZ, equipping a key instrument used for research into the Milky Way's supermassive black hole.
Our partners include prestigious players in the fields of research, such as ESO (European Space Observatory), NASA and CNES, and industry, such as Airbus, Thales and Safran...
Located in "Inovallée" in Montbonnot Saint-martin (38), in the heart of Europe's “Silicon Valley”, we offer our 50 employees a unique working environment at the foot of the Alps.

Are you looking for challenge ? Are you curious and eager to take on an intership that will help you develop your skills and put your academic knowledge into practice ?
Would you like to join an innovative and agile company and contribute to its continued growth ?
To help us achieve our performance objectives, we are continuing to pursue our ambitions and strengthen our teams within our subsidiary, Bertin ALPAO.
Join us and apply for our intership opportunity entitled : Integration of ML models in High performance computing architecture.
The Real-Time Computer (RTC) is a platform designed for adaptive optics systems requiring high loop frequencies and low latency. It supports control rates up to 5kHz with a typical latency below 80μs, making it suitable for applications such as atmospheric turbulence compensation.
Today, new control algorithms based on machine learning are emerging. They help increasing the robustness and accuracy of turbulence compensation.
Your main Responsibilities :
The goal of this internship is to implement such ML models, validated by the R&D team, on the RTC. A study on minimum hardware prerequesite will be necessary. Validation and performance tests will be done on the Bertin Alpao turbulence generator bench.
Deployments on real-world systems should also be anticipated, in particular systems used by the R&D team. Focus on interoperability will be necessary from the start of the internship
Qualifications:
We are looking for a Master's degree student or final-year Engineering School student, specializing in computer Science, Artificial Intelligence or a related field.
Key Skills Required
Knowledge of Machine Learning and control algorithms.
Good programming skills in Python and/or C++
Interest in high-performance computing, real-time systems and R&D projects
