MagnetFab is a deeptech startup pioneering the world’s first chip-scale micromagnets, enabling a new generation of MEMS devices that integrate permanent rare-earth micromagnets, from microspeakers to magnetic sensors and quantum technologies. We are currently hosted at Institut Néel – CNRS in Grenoble, one of France’s flagship research institutes, internationally recognized for its excellence in condensed matter physics and particularly renowned for its pioneering contributions to magnetism.
We are looking for an inventive MEMS Development Engineer – Design & Fabrication to complete our team and establish in-house expertise in MEMS development. This will be a cornerstone role at MagnetFab: you will be the in-house specialist responsible for the design, simulation, and fabrication of MEMS devices. You will play a central role in developing proof-of-concepts, taking designs from idea to prototype through modeling, cleanroom processing, and experimental validation.
What you will do
Lead concept, architecture, and detailed design of MEMS devices and microsystems
Perform multiphysics modeling and design optimization (mechanical, magnetic, acoustic, thermal)
Define, document, and improve microfabrication flows
Conduct root cause analysis, design of experiments (DoE), and yield improvement
Carry out electrical, mechanical, magnetic, and acoustic testing; analyze data and correlate with models
Build and improve lab test setups; perform measurements and reporting
Collaborate with MagnetFab’s scientific advisors and R&D partners to design experiments, troubleshoot, and refine MEMS and sensor fabrication techniques
Interface with suppliers and foundries; support technology transfer and pilot builds
Stay at the forefront of microfabrication, MEMS, and sensor industry trends
Contribute to invention disclosures and patent filings

MSc or PhD in microengineering, physics, material science, or a related field
Several years of hands-on experience in MEMS or sensor design and integration
Strong background in micro and nanofabrication in a cleanroom environment
Expertise in multiphysics simulation tools such as COMSOL or Ansys, with a proven track record of using them for MEMS device design and optimization
Hands-on skills in cleanroom microfabrication tools and techniques
Professional working proficiency in both English and French
Demonstrated proactive attitude, strong autonomy, and ability to take initiative in problem solving and project management
Open and flexible mindset with a positive attitude towards challenges and change
