Magellium Artal Group, with 300 employees, is an independent company specialized in the remote sensing data value chain — from satellite or drone sensors to their use in Earth observation systems and services, cartography, and geointelligence. The company promotes expertise in space technologies, software engineering, signal processing, and geomatics.
As part of its Earth Observation activities, Magellium Artal Group contributes to major programs led by space agencies and other institutions. The company is recognized by its clients for its scientific expertise across numerous fields, ranging from measurement physics to downstream applications. The Earth observation projects entrusted to Magellium notably involve scientific processing chains for satellite-acquired data.
Within its Earth Observation unit, Magellium Artal Group also develops scientific expertise in collaboration with research laboratories across various application domains related to major Earth system challenges. This includes producing datasets and studies on key environmental variables at multiple spatial and temporal scales. Activities often involve processing geophysical data, extracting significant signals of interest, and conducting studies in partnership with relevant scientific laboratories.
In particular, Magellium Artal Group has developed strong expertise in processing Earth observation space data for climate change studies. For several years, the company has worked on specifying, generating, and validating indicators such as changes in ocean heat content and Earth’s energy imbalance using geodetic satellite data (altimetry and gravimetry).
Reporting to the Climate division within the Earth Observation unit, you will join a team of around 15 experts dedicated to developing climate indicators from space-based data. You will primarily work on the exploitation of satellite gravimetry data used to quantify mass transfers within the Earth system (ice melt, sea level rise, hydrological cycle). In this role, you will contribute to the processing and analysis of data from past (GRACE), current (GRACE-FO), and future (NGGM, MAGIC) missions, using both real observations and simulations.
You will also contribute to major projects such as:
the CNES SAGSA project, aimed at developing a spatial gravimetry data and services center
the ESA SING project, focused on assessing the contribution of future satellite gravimetry missions for scientific and operational applications
Main Responsibilities :
Collect, analyze, and validate scientific data in line with project objectives
Design and develop methods and algorithms for geophysical data processing
Conduct scientific studies autonomously while interacting with internal teams and clients
Write scientific deliverables: reports, technical documents, publications
Present results during project meetings and at national/international conferences
Conduct literature reviews and maintain scientific and technological monitoring
You hold either a PhD, or an engineering degree from a top engineering school, with specialization in applied mathematics, physics, Earth sciences, or remote sensing. Experience in a research laboratory or company demonstrating your ability to independently manage scientific projects will be highly valued, particularly in the following fields:
satellite gravimetry
remote sensing
oceanography
hydrology
Earth observation
Participation in scientific publications (articles, ATBDs, PUMs) is considered an asset.
