À propos de  Magellium Artal Group

Magellium (Artal Group), with its 300 employees, is an independent company, specialised in the value chain of remote sensing data (from the satellite or drone sensor to its use in earth observation systems and services, cartography and geo-intelligence) which promotes mastery of space technologies, software, signal processing and geomatics.

Le poste

As part of its Earth Observation activities, Magellium is involved in major programs led by space or operational agencies. Earth observation projects implement scientific processing chains for the satellites’ payload. These processing chains, either processing prototypes or operational chains, are developed as part of the ground segments of satellite missions. The specificity of these processing activities lies in the required multiple capabilities in scientific or algorithmic techniques of remote sensing, engineering methods, software and IT, in a processing environment often constrained by robustness and performance.

The skills and experience developed in processing development activities for space ground segments are brought together within a specific section within the Magellium Earth Observation (EO) unit. The unit currently gathers 5 thematic sections: Geometry of sensors, Image Quality, Ground Segments, Sensor Physics and Applications, Climate.

Reporting to the head of the Ground Segment section, you will be the technical manager of Earth Observation ground segment projects and activities within Magellium (Earth Observation Unit). These activities consist in development and maintenance of remote sensing scientific processing chains in which Magellium is involved, mainly in the fields of satellite imagery and atmospheric sounding.

Your technical responsibility will embrace :

  • Architecture of efficient processing chains of scientific data in Earth Observation,
  • Specification, design, supervision of developments, monitoring of validation,
  • Development life cycle: Space engineering methodologies and standards (ECSS), agile methods,
  • Management and allocation of technical facts to a development team,
  • Methodological writing of technical documentation corresponding to the main stages of development: milestones, reviews, technical points,
  • Responsibility for the technical interface with the customer and the partners.

Apart from the above project involvements, you will actively contribute to the technical expertise of the Earth Observation Unit by :

  • Taking in charge the technical part of competitive proposals in response to invitations to tender in the Space Earth Observation domain,
  • Participating to the Earth Observation Unit Technical Committee,
  • When relevant, acting as Magellium project manager for the different tasks allocated to our company in the field of Earth Observation Space Ground Segment.

Profil recherché

You hold a Master of Science, or PHD, you have sound and validated experience in the field of space ground segments, the involved methodologies and standards, in particular in Earth Observation. You also have a significant experience in the field of remote sensing, processing in optical imaging, atmospheric sounding or possibly in other fields. In addition, your experience proves your skills in team management and work organization for a seamless and optimised collective framework.

Required Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of space ground segments and methodologies related to the development life cycle, engineering standards (ECSS or equivalent),
  • Scientific expertise in the field of Earth observation, remote sensing,
  • Good background in large data processing in a complex environment,
  • Knowledge of software developments, in a scientific and operational field,
  • Parallel, distributed, cloud processing infrastructures and technologies,
  • Computer languages Java, C++, Python,
  • Skills in scientific computing, computer and digital tools for scientific computing, High Performance, parallel, could computing techniques,
