Job description

Our customers in the fields of space, astronomy and large-scale scientific instruments are looking for manufacturers capable of supplying unique, highly complex components such as state-of-the-art optical components, instruments for observing the earth or the universe, or optoelectronic systems.

To meet this challenge, Bertin Technologies is expanding its machine park and strengthening its teams within the Bertin Photonics Division. So join us and become our new Technical Manager for Embedded Space Systems focused on laser communication applications.

Based at our Photonics Design Office in Aix-en-Provence, you will take on the technical leadership of a product line related to Bertin Technologies’ lasercom offering. This is a central role requiring both technical expertise in the systems being developed and a strong understanding of market trends to optimize the product offering accordingly. You will be responsible for ensuring that system performance targets are met during development phases and that they align with customer expectations.

Your skills and experience will enable you to handle the following tasks :

Offer Development, teaming up with the sales department:

• Engage with lasercom equipment users to gain deeper market insights

• Understand customer needs and translate them into clear, shared technical requirements

• Develop distinctive technical proposals to strengthen the company’s offering

• Identify architectures and technologies that meet requirements while showcasing the company’s capabilities

Development Oversight, in close collaboration with the technical teams:

• Collaborate with the project manager to oversee the technical team and ensure performance objectives are met

• Take charge of technical work packages involving the design, testing, and validation of optical sub-functions

• Establish procedures for manufacturing, testing, and system qualification

• Supervise junior engineering profiles

Occasional travel within Europ and abroad is expected.

Profile

You hold an engineering degree or a master’s in optics and/or photonics, potentially followed by a PhD in the field of optics.

You can demonstrate 10 years of professional experience in the development of optical or photonic systems in one or more of the following areas:

• Free-space laser communication

• Directed energy weapons

• Optical telecom components

• Embedded space optical systems

Your experience involves one or more of the following technologies:

• Fiber lasers or amplifiers

• Free-space optical assemblies

• Fiber collimators

• Imaging optics

Beyond technical expertise, you have a proven track record in developing complex technological solutions in optics or photonics:

• You are comfortable interacting with clients and suppliers at an international level

• You enjoy understanding customer needs and finding tailored solutions

• You are passionate about optics and space

• You thrive in multidisciplinary team environments
